The Consortium Agrobiologico Agribosco
The Consortium Agrobiologico Agribosco comprises over 120 members, 67 of whom are Umbrians. Each member cultivates his farm by adhering to the rules and methods of organic farming; in total we cultivate over 13,600 acres of farm land - 8,650 of which are in Umbria. Umbria, Le Marche, Lazio, Tuscany and Piemonte are among the regions of Italy represented by the Consortium, regions well suited to the various crops we grow.
Every growing season, the technicians of the Consortium Agrobiologico Agribosco create our Annual Cultivation Plan. This plan is developed taking into account market demand and total productive capacity; the total target production is then allocated among the various members of the Consortium according to the Annual Cultivation Plan.
The mission of the Consortium's members is to then cultivate the seeds selected by Agribosco. It is imperative to use only the right seeds in producing our products. As such, we've gone back to the "original seeds," we call them the "ancient seeds," which have not been modified over time. Modified seed stocks such as GMO (genetically modified organisms) are rapidly spreading throughout the world. At Agribosco we use only the "ancient," un-modified seeds. The use of "ancient seed" stock reflects our respect for the bio-diversity of the land and the traditional farming methods of our region. During all phases of cultivation, from planting the seeds to harvest, the members' crops are subject to inspection by our technicians at Agribosco. Such inspections are necessary to guarantee to our consumers the quality we promise.
Our "rules of production" ,developed with care from our years of experience in the field, are not merely a list of growing procedures/methods for our farmers but are also a means through which our members understand our approach to farming and the environment and our relationship with nature.
